Full time workers are entitled to leaves. They are also to avail fourteen official public holidays. There are different types of leaves available for the workers depending on their requirement at the time. Paid annual leaves are for full time employment types in UAE after the worker has worked at a company for a certain duration of time.
There are sick leaves for employees when they are feeling ill. These leaves are fully paid for the first fifteen days. The next thirty days of sick leave will be compensated with half the pay. The next forty-five days of sick leave would be unpaid for all types of employment contract.
Maternity leaves are for women employees. Women who have worked at a company for at least a year are eligible for a forty-five days leaves with compensation of full pay. Working hours less than a whole year at a company will have the women workers qualify for a forty-five days leave with fifty percent of their pay compensation.
Paternal leaves have been introduced for the private sector by the government of United Arab of Emirates. Parents can receive this leave of five days under full time types of employment contract. This leave can be availed at any time up until the child reaches six months of age.
Visa and Work Permit Requirements

Expats need to obtain residency visa, their Emirates ID and work permit. A signed work contract and a job offer letter is also required. Other requirements for a work permit include passport sized photographs, a copy of the employee’s passport, their medical certificate and a valid commercial license of the company. A labor card is a necessity to work in the country. The labor card is issued by Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Among different types of employment, contract work is for a certain predetermined duration of time. The beginning and end date is mentioned in these types of employment contracts. There are two main types of employment when it comes to contract work. These are limited contract and unlimited contract.
Limited contract has the end date specified. These types of employment contract are mainly for project based or temporary roles. Unlimited contract is for long term work. It is no longer common.
Contract Renewal and Termination Procedures
In United Arab Emirates, contract can be terminated by either the employer or employee. They have to follow the terms and notice period mentioned in the contract. They may not renew their contract to not continue the work further. The contract can be ended with a notice period provided. There is Article 44 of UAE labor law too which outlines the terms of termination without notice. There are certain conditions defined in the article that prevent any unfair termination.
If the employer wants the employee to continue working for them, they will have the contract renewed before the expiry of the first one.
